Typography Cards

A card deck of different fonts

Assignment

To design and create a custom typography-themed deck of cards, with each card representing a letter of the alphabet (A-Z). Each card would feature a unique font while incorporating a creative cohesive design to bring the whole deck together.

Know-how

Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop

Plan

Based on inspiration and research of various typefaces, I designed a concept deck with twenty six individual letter cards. Each card featuring a different font and their unique history.

Approach

I first approached this project by first gathering inspiration of what fonts I wanted. After finding many sources and lots of examples different fonts it was time to put it all together with an overall cohesive theme, I chose a futuristic HUD as inspiration. In this specific assignment I had a restriction that was given to me by my professor that I could not use certain colors, that I had to go out of my comfort zone a little. To do this I decided to use the color yellow, a color never seen in my portfolio before.

Results

The A-Z typography deck was successfully designed, printed, and assembled. It offered an educational and creative exploration of typefaces.

Card Fronts

Depicted below is a flat vector version of all the fronts of the cards. Each includes the font, the author of the font, when it was made and a little history about the font itself. There really is no reason behind what fonts I chose except I found them interesting and they fit the requirements.

Card Backs

Depicted below is a flat vector version of all the backs of the cards. Each includes the given letter in said font.
